YMS Series #17 – Resistome and microbiome-immune interactions

March 16, 2026
18:30 EET
The YMS Series aims to bring together the RSBI community to discuss science and career experiences. We especially encourage young researchers to attend this series, as it exposes them to diverse research directions and provides opportunities to explore potential career paths.

On Monday, March 16, at 18:30 EET we are delighted to host our guests Dr. Bogdan Mirăuță who will present latest research about the #resistome and #microbiome-immune interactions under treatment pressure.

Talk:

Dr. Bogdan Mirăuță, "The resistome and microbiome–immune interactions in a cohort from Romania", Romanian Bioinformatics Cluster, Romania

Abstract. The intestinal microbiome plays an essential role in host health, influencing various functions of the body. A balanced microbiome is associated with favorable health states; however, excessive use of antibiotics and diet can lead to dysbiosis, affecting the body’s homeostasis. In this talk, I will present the metagenomic analysis of the intestinal microbiome in a healthy cohort from Romania, a population characterized by high antibiotic consumption. The study contributes to uncovering microbial diversity in Europe, providing insights into community configurations and correlations with existing enterotype models. I will also discuss the analysis of antimicrobial resistance and the correlations observed between the prevalence of resistance genes and antibiotic consumption within the population. Finally, I will present results regarding the relationship between the microbial profile and systemic immune responses, identifying a possible link between the Prevotella enterotype and the balance of cytokine production.
