YMS Series #22 – Typing bacterial pathogens

May 25, 2026
18:00 EEST
The YMS Series brings together the RSBI community and beyond to engage in discussions on cutting-edge science and research journeys. We especially invite young researchers to attend, offering them a chance to explore diverse research directions, gain inspiration, and discover potential career paths in science.

On Monday, May 25, at 18:00 EEST we are delighted to host our guest Prof. Natacha Couto and Rafael Mamede, who will present about #typing #bacterial #pathogens.

Talk:

Prof. Natacha Couto and Rafael Mamede, "Typing bacterial pathogens with ChewBBACA 3 and its application to Mycoplasma pneumoniae", Cardiff Metropolitan University/LSHTM UK and University of Lisbon, Portugal

Abstract: Whole-genome sequencing has enabled the development of enhanced resolution typing methods that leverage the full genomic content providing a more accurate measure of strain similarity. ChewBBACA 3 is capable of creating wg/cgMLST schemes encompassing the variability of hundreds of thousands of loci for a species of interest in a scalable and sensitive manner. Here, we will describe its functionalities and its application to the respiratory pathogen Mycoplasma pneumoniae.

Keywords: genomics, typing, cgMLST, wgMLST, WGS
