On Thursday, September 11, at 17:00 EEST we will hear a talk about the #forensic #genetics.
Talk:
Dr. Florin Stanciu, "An introduction to forensic genetics", National Forensic Institute, Bucharest, Romania.
Keywords: Forensic DNA Typing, Forensic Genetics
Abstract: Forensic Genetics is a multidisciplinary field that applies genetic science to legal investigations and justice. It focuses on the analysis of DNA and other genetic markers to establish individual identity, kinship, and biological relationships in both criminal and civil cases. Advances in molecular biology, such as short tandem repeat (STR) profiling, mitochondrial DNA sequencing, and next-generation sequencing (NGS), have significantly increased the resolution and reliability of forensic analyses. Applications range from identifying perpetrators, victims, and missing persons to disaster victim identification and population genetics studies. By combining rigorous scientific methods with legal applicability, forensic genetics has become one of the most powerful tools in modern forensic science.
