YMS Series – Bioinformatics Trends in Academia vs. Industry

March 19, 2025
17:30 GMT+2
The YMS Series aims to bring together the RSBI community to discuss science and career experiences. We especially encourage young researchers to attend this series, as it exposes them to diverse research directions and provides opportunities to explore potential career paths.

On Wednesday, March 19, at 17:30 GMT+2 we will hear a talk about #Bioinformatics #Trends and learned-lessons in  #Academia vs. #Industry:

Prof. Dr. Andreas Bender, "Two Decades in Computational Life Sciences in Academia, Big Pharma, and Start-Ups – Bigger Trends, Differences Between Environments, and Personal Lessons Learned", Khalifa University, Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates

Keywords: Computational Life Sciences, Career Choices, Personal Growth

Abstract:After about 20 years analysing chemical and biological data in different environments, across academia, big pharma, and start-up companies in seven (soon eight) different countries, I would like to share some higher-level learnings, covering both scientific and technical aspects, as well as more personal learnings related to different types of organizations I worked and countries I lived in. I will cover what I personally perceive as contributing to both personal and scientific growth, some of which may (or may not) resonate with some of the audience from time to time. There will be ample time for questions and discussion across the science and technology, personal growth, and career interface.

Format: Online, free to attend, no registration is required: Zoom

Organization: YMS is organized by RSBI and is linked to RoBioinfo Seminars
